Psalm 96:3 Declare his glory amongst the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!

The alarm rang bright and early for all of us today! Jeff headed off to work on the wall, Anjali was out the door for school at 6:50 am, and David, Lucia, and I walked over to school. David is comfortable enough now I don’t have to walk him to his classroom, so we say goodbye and I take Lucia to hers. Johannes was nice enough to meet us at the school and show me where I was to go…I was to be an aide in one of the 1 Klasse and help a student with special needs. Inside I was laughing at this…how am I to help this child when I can’t speak his language? I can’t explain to him what to do, how am I going to know what to do, etc. So I take a deep breath and take my seat right next to him.

I am not going to lie, I had no idea what was happening today. Ines, the teacher/principal, had the kids walking around introducing each other, so I joined in. The kids got a total kick out of my attempts to speak German, they tried to correct me and then we would all laugh when I made an attempt and failed. Another deep breath and I learned my colors and numbers. The more Ines spoke to the children, the more lost I became, so another deep breath. By the end of the day, I was surprised at how helpful I was actually able to be to Jermaine and to Ines. As I walked home with David and Lucia I was pleasantly surprised at how well the day had gone and how much I was actually able to understand, explain, and help despite the language barrier.

After school Jeff and I headed to get our new wedding rings. The kids wanted to join us (or actually we didn’t trust them home alone since they continue to raid the pantry of any treats they can find the second we leave!). Across the way from Van HelsInk is a sushi bar, and the owner/manager brought us some sushi to try; it was wonderful, even the kids enjoyed it. I went first, then Jeff followed. The rings turned out amazing! Though I have to admit that I have no idea how people stand to get large tattoos, that was not my favorite thing to do and I will be happy to not do it again!

On another note, we booked flights for Anjali and I to go to Paris and visit with Nadia. We were able to find reasonable tickets for the two of us, so we are leaving on Saturday morning to take the train to Berlin to fly to Paris and surprise Nadia (Suzanne asked if we could keep it a surprise!). This is going to be so much fun and Anjali was so excited when we told her, she had no idea that we were trying to plan this for her.
